I'm back y'all with another foundation review, today it's going to be the L'Oreal Pro Glow Foundation that I've been using for 3-4 weeks now. I've done a review on the L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte foundation already which can be found HERE. To see my full review, click "Read More" below!
Price
This foundation retails for $12.99 USD and between $15-$20 CAD depending on where you buy it. For a drugstore foundation, I'd say it's mid-high price.
Packaging
It comes in a plastic squeeze tube which is great for travelling and for use, much better than a bottle without a pump in my opinion!
The packaging is very similar to the other L'Oreal Infallible foundations (of which there is a total of three - Pro Matte, Pro Glow and Total Cover), the difference being that it is glossy to reflect the "pro glow" nature and the colour you see on the bottle is actually the shade of foundation inside because it is see through.
Shade Selection
There are 12 shades in this line, which is the same as the other Infallible foundations. The names are very similar between the lines as well. Overall, I think this is a pretty decent shade range for the drugstore, and if you can't find your shade you are likely in between shades but buying two foundations at this price won't break the bank and you'll be able to adjust the colour as the seasons go when you're lighter in the winter and darker in the summer.
I did find it difficult to match myself, as I do with all drugstore foundations, so I asked a sales assistant for help and I think she did a good job. I wear shade 208 Sun Beige.
Claims
On the website it's described as a foundation that has:
"Up to 24 hour wear with a hydrating glow. Lightweight and creamy, this long lasting foundation goes on smooth with a glow finish that lasts. With medium coverage, it instantly hides imperfections for a clear complexion. The hydrating foundation with SPF is ideal for normal to dry skin."
First Impressions
My first impression was that the finish wasn't nearly as dewy as I thought it would be. I actually found my Milani Perfect + Conceal foundation (review for that foundation is HERE) to have more of a glow on me, but that was my natural oil coming out. Over time I came to realize that the foundation is dewy and it gets dewier over time, but just not what I expected a foundation marketed as Pro Glow to be. You do not need to wear highlighter on top of this for a wonderfully natural and dewy look for a regular day.
I also noticed that when I don't wear a primer, my pores were emphasized on my cheeks. When I use a primer, this was not an issue.
Application and Finish
I always always start off with shaking the bottle and then applying to the back of my hand. I've used both a damp beauty blender sponge and my favourite Real Techniques face brush to apply the foundation and I enjoy using both. I dot it all over my face and then blend it in. You get a more dewy look when using a damp beauty blender though!
I've used the foundation on days where I have cleansed my skin and just moisturized, and I've used it on days where it's been a few hours since I applied my moisturizer.
Other things I've noticed, the foundation is light-medium coverage, and I use two thin layers to get a medium coverage, and the second layer is when I notice the dewy effect more. I can still see my post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne (dark marks, red and brown all over my face) peeking through after the second layer. I love that the foundation feels light on my skin and my skin never feels dried out during or after wearing this.
The longest I've worn this foundation is probably 11-12 hours (including a short nap), and it held up well. Even so, I'm skeptical that it wears a full 24 hours and if it does, no one should be wearing makeup for a full 24 hours! Your skin needs a break!
Overall Thoughts
I really do like this foundation for an everyday foundation. Ideally I'd like it to be a bit lower in price with a bit more coverage, but I do like that this foundation adds a healthy glow to my face. I like this foundation more than the Pro Matte, but that's because I absolutely love to glow and I think it looks so beautiful.
I would recommend this foundation if you're looking for a light-medium coverage foundation with good wear and a naturally dewy finish.
I always enjoy trying out new products, if there's anything else you'd like me to review let me know! I'm on Instagram @themakeupdiaryblog or you can email me at [email protected]
Until next time beauties,
