Looxi Beauty (@looxi_beauty on instagram) is a new makeup company (it's also cruelty free) that started this past June. They have been in business for less than 6 months and are already doing so well. It's run by a lady named Jessica and let me tell you, she is so hard working! The company has been continuously introducing new products and new shades, and they have some pretty unique stuff. For example, in the upcoming month they will be releasing a permanent collection of duochrome eyeshadows (called the 'Auroras'), and duchrome highlights. They already have such unique colours in highlighters, so this will be such a cool addition. Did I mention everything is super affordable?? Each of their eyeshadows is $5, and highlighters is $15. They also have these cool products called 'Kickers' which are basically liquid highlighters that match their powder counterpart. You can get a highlighter and matching kicker for only $15 as well. Steal! I ordered a few of their products to test them out and I'd like to take this chance to review them. If you'd like to see what I think, keep reading!
Here's what I got:
- 'Latte' eyeshadow (rumoured dupe for Stila 'Kitten')
- 'Obsessed' eyeshadow
- 'Honeychild' highlighter
- 'Honeychid' Kicker
These eyeshadows look beautiful. They are 1.3 g each and come in magnetized pans (as does the highlighter). This is really nice because I can just stick it in my Z palette. Looxi also sells Z palettes on their website, but if you are looking for another retailer I know that Makeup Geek does as well. These pans are slightly smaller than Makeup Geek and Morphebrushes eyeshadow singles which come in at 1.8 g and 1.5 g respectively. Price per gram, they are more expensive than both Makeup Geek and Morphebrushes.
Obsessed is a rose gold shade with silver shimmer, and it's not as opaque as I'd like it to be. Perhaps with some eye drops or MAC Fix + on your brush it would be splendid for a spotlight eye though. For me, if I don't do that, I would layer it on top of a similarly coloured eyeshadow.
Latte is a shimmery nude with silver shimmer. Although Stila Kitten is a shimmery nude pink, I think this eyeshadow would be pretty close to it. And for the price point I think I'd prefer this one. It is more opaque than Obsessed, or can be more easily built up to be opaque.
I think that both Obsessed and Latte have potential to be great highlighters as well on certain skin tones, but they do have fine glitter in them, so if you don't like that you won't want to use it as a highlighter.
Honeychild is the highlighter, and I'm not sure how to describe this shade. It's sort of a coppery-bronze shade. It has a sheen to it that's not made up of glitter. The pan contains 6.5 g but this is the smaller size, if you buy the highlighter by itself (and not with the Kicker) it is larger.

Here's the Kicker in the shade Honeychild. It matches the powder exactly. I'm not sure how much product is in this, because the label does not say. However the bottle is quite small, the pictures make it look larger than it is. The whole bottle is about the size of my middle finger. When I purchased this, the product came out in a pump, however I hear that the packaging will be changed to doe foot applicators very soon. When I first received this, I had some troubles pumping out the product, so I wiped away the front of the nozzle and placed it in a bowl of warm water. This did the trick and the product comes out nicely now. The Kickers can be worn alone, just like the powder highlighters, or for more intensity you can wear the powder highlight on top of the Kicker.
As you can see, the powder highlight alone is not very intense, while the blended out version of the Kicker is more so. The most intense is the Kicker and the powder highlight together, as expected.
I found that the Kicker did contain some small lumps, which is not ideal, especially when applying to the high points of the face. You want to emphasize that part and have it look smooth, not lumpy. That's not attractive! However, I think you can just flick those away, or blend them out thoroughly.
For both the powder and Kicker form of Honeychild, I found that I did not like the shade on my skin tone. The reason for this is because when I highlight under my eyes (in an upside down triangle shape that extends down to the end of my nose and up along my cheekbones) I want that area to be light and bright. When I tried putting this shade on as a highlight, I felt like it muddied up the effect of the light area and stood out in an unattractive way. No matter how hard I tried, it just looked like I hadn't blended it in properly. If I spread it around too much, all of my work into highlighting with a light concealer went away. I think that this shade would look great on people who have a darker skin tone than I do though.
Overall, I'm pleased with the company, the packaging, the prices, and the shade selections available. For eyeshadows, there is a range of mattes and shimmers to purchase and like I've said their highlighter shade is not only wide but very unique. I would recommend you check out this company, but if you're buying a highlighter, make sure to think about if it will suit your skin tone.
