I love using masks and I've heard everyone and their mom rave about the Glam Glow face masks sold at Sephora for $70 each. That's a really steep price and I've heard that this mask does something similar in terms of detoxifying and cleaning, so I decided to try this out instead. I've used it at least six to seven times now, so I'd like to share my first impressions of this mask and an overall review. If you're looking into buying this, definitely keep reading!
This post will start with my first impressions, then move on to how to actually use the mask and end with my overall review. Feel free to skim to the parts that are most useful to you.
Quick facts:
This mask comes in powder form, it's 100% calcium bentonite with no other ingredients. It's recommended that you mix equal parts of the powder with raw apple cider vinegar but you can use water as well. It mixes into a paste that you can then apply to your face. The label recommends to leave it on for 5-10 minutes for sensitive skin and 15-20 minutes otherwise.
First Impressions
I started off by using it once a week for four weeks with apple cider vinegar, here are my first impressions from that month.

First Impressions
I started off by using it once a week for four weeks with apple cider vinegar, here are my first impressions from that month.
First Use
- It smells horrible!
- It fizzles when it mixes
- It's a nasty shade of green
- I applied it with a flat foundation brush, it was really easy to apply
- Some areas start drying SUPER QUICK and turns a light green when dry. It depends on how thick you apply it, I applied it thicker on problem areas and thinner on other areas
- You can't move your face once it dries, it feels EXTREMELY tight
- When it's dry, it cracks, making you sort of look like a lizard
- Easy removal
- No miracles happened the rest of the day, but maybe due to a placebo I thought there was a subtle difference in my skin, it looked better
- I felt tingling near my chin, and thought maybe I was getting a pimple there, possibly due to the mask bringing impurities to the surface of my skin. I did end up getting pimples in that area after a day
Second Use
- I had it on for longer, about 30 minutes
- I could definitely feel it PULSATING on my face
- My face was red for about 5-10 minutes after and it calmed down quickly
- For up to 20-25 minutes after (up until I put on moisturizer) my face still felt tight and to me that was good!
- I felt like my pores were closing, after I put on moisturizer my face felt normal
- The day after, my skin felt and looked better. It was not miraculously clear but somehow looked better. My moisturizer was doing a good job of hydrating my skin and making it feel supple
Third Use
- kept it on for 40 minutes, didn't feel the pulsating
Fourth Use
- Had it on for about 30 minutes and I could feel the pulsating
- After I took it off, every single point, pimple and mark on my face was quite red and emphasized
- My face felt tight and a little warm
How To Use
Let's talk about how to use it now. You cannot use any metal with this mask, so I use a plastic spoon and container, along with a flat foundation brush, a measuring spoon and apple cider vinegar.
Some tips for using this mask:
- Definitely use a flat foundation brush to apply, it's so easy!
- You'll get used to the smell, don't worry
- Avoid the eye area, since the mask really pulls on your skin you do NOT want it on any delicate skin under your eyes
- Best to use before you sleep so you don't have to worry about the redness before going out somewhere
- Moisturize after use!
- Wet your face with warm water first to rehydrate the mask, and THEN begin wiping it off. It comes off easily in the sink or shower this way
- Leave the mask on until it completely dries, for me this takes at least 25-30 minutes. I keep it on for up to 40 minutes max
Review
I don't have any other product that cleans as deep as this. I really love having something that deep cleans my pores and pulls out any gunk in there. That being said, it is not a miracle product. Using it will not suddenly give you clear skin. I know because it didn't for me. I would start off slow and work up with this product in terms of how long you leave it on, because it can be pretty intense.
This product is inexpensive for how much product you get in it (1 lb will make more than the 10-15 facials it says on the label, it will likely last me a year!). Since it comes as a powder, it will stay good in storage for a long time as well. Another thing I like it that there isn't a long list of ingredients in this product, it's just calcium bentonite clay.
I would definitely recommend this mask to anyone, it's great to use on a weekly basis to deep clean.
